• Gi-hun, the protagonist survived in Squid Game 2.
  • Characters like Hyun-ju, Geum-ja, Yong-sik, Jun-hee, Dae-ho, Seon-nyeo,and Myung-gi also survived in Squid Game 2.
  • Since the games are not over yet, all of these character will reappear in Squid Game Season 3.

Squid Game Season 2 didn’t just match the high stakes and brutality of the first; it cranked things up with more twists, more blood, and a whole new set of players fighting for survival. And now that Season 3 is officially on the way, fans are naturally wondering, who’s even left to return? With the sheer number of jaw-dropping deaths and plot twists, keeping track of who lived and who bit the dust isn’t exactly easy. So, to save you the trouble (and potential heartbreak), we’ve put together a full rundown of every character who survived the madness of Squid Game Season 2 and will be walking back into the game for Season 3. Let’s dive in!

1. Gi-Hun (Player 456)

After surviving the horrors of Season 1, Gi-hun returns in Squid Game Season 2, but he’s not just another player this time; he’s on a mission. Armed with a fortune and a burning need to shut the whole thing down, Gi-hun sets his sights on taking down the masterminds behind the game. Things seemed to be falling into place when he and his band of hired muscle tracked down The Recruiter, and for a moment, it looked like the tide was finally turning. But of course, Squid Game thrives on twists, and Gi-hun found himself back in the game.

This time, though, he wasn’t just playing; he led an armed rebellion from the inside. Sadly, the uprising didn’t go as planned, and we lost our comrade Jung-bae, which is one of the saddest deaths we saw in Squid Game Season 2. Still, Gi-hun survived, and with Season 3 on the horizon, it looks like the fight isn’t over just yet.

2. Hyun-ju (Player 120)

Hyun-ju in Squid Game Season 3 - 2

Starting as a background player, Hyun-ju slowly but surely became a fan-favorite in Squid Game Season 2, and for good reason. A trans ex-special forces operative with nerves of steel and a heart of gold, Hyun-ju stood out not just for their combat skills, but also for how genuinely helpful and kind they were to others.

They even gave a crash course on how to use an MP5 submachine gun during the rebellion to other players. They entered the game to earn enough money for their transition surgery, and despite a seriously stressful cliffhanger towards the end, Hyun-ju pulled through and is confirmed to return in Squid Game Season 3.

3. Geum-ja (Player 149)

4. Yong-sik (Player 007)

Yong-sik from Squid Game Season 3 - 4

Image Credit: Netflix (via YouTube/Netflix, screenshot by Shashank Shakya/Beebom)

Yong-sik is the son of Geum-ja and is neck-deep in gambling debt. He entered the Squid Game hoping to win enough money to clear his debts and start fresh, with his mom by his side. What he didn’t realize, though, was that his mother had followed him and gotten herself dragged into the games too.

Since then, Ong-sik’s been carrying the guilt of putting her in danger. During the chaos of the dorm fight, he chose to hide. And even though he wanted to join Gi-hun and the others when they took up arms, his mother stopped him. Because of that, Ong-sik ended up surviving Squid Game Season 2.

5. Jun-hee (Player 222)

Jun-hee in Squid Game Season 3 - 5

Image Credit: Netflix (via YouTube/Netflix, screenshot by Shashank Shakya/Beebom)

Jun-hee is a young woman who was orphaned early in life and, as an adult, ended up dating one of the players, Myung-gi. He was a content creator who went by the name MG Coin and gave people advice on crypto. But when he told Jun-hee to invest in a coin called Dalmatian, it turned out to be a scam, and she lost all her money.

To make matters worse, she’s also pregnant with Myung-gi’s child and now desperately needs money. So, to secure a future for herself and her baby, she joined the games and managed to survive to the final episode of Squid Game Season 2 .

6. Dae-ho (Player 388)

Dae-ho in Squid Game Season 3 - 6

Image Credit: Netflix (via YouTube/Netflix, screenshot by Shashank Shakya/Beebom)

Dae-ho is an ex-marine who puts on a tough-guy act, but in reality, has never actually seen combat. When Gi-hun and his team of players decided to rise and take arms against the game, Dae-ho couldn’t muster the courage to fight alongside them. Instead, he was sent to the dorm to gather ammunition from the dead Squid Game crew , but fear got the better of him, and he never made it back. That’s exactly why he’s one of the few who didn’t die in Squid Game Season 2.

7. Seon-nyeo (Player 044)

Seon-nyeo in Squid Game Season 3 - 7

Image Credit: Netflix (via YouTube/Netflix, screenshot by Shashank Shakya/Beebom)

Seon-nyeo claims to be a renowned shaman, but let’s be honest, she’s more drama than divine. After losing a large chunk of money, she joined the Squid Game to pay off her debts. She comes off as arrogant and full of herself, but most of her so-called spiritual awakening is a sham. That became pretty obvious when she started having anxiety attacks and lashing out at her teammates. Even though she is widely disliked, she stayed behind in the dorm during the rebellion and survived Squid Game Season 2.

8. Myung-gi (Player 333)

Myung-gi in Squid Game Season 3 - 8

Image Credit: Netflix (via YouTube/Netflix, screenshot by Shashank Shakya/Beebom)

Myung-gi used to run a YouTube channel called MG Coin, where he gave crypto advice. However, things went south when he hyped up a coin named Dalmatian, which turned out to be a scam. A lot of people lost a lot of money, and Myung-gi himself ended up bankrupt. Later, when he found Jun-hee in the game, he tried to patch things up with her, but let’s just say it didn’t go as planned. That said, he’s managed to survive Squid Game Season 2 and will be returning in Season 3.

10. Min-su (Player 125)

Min-su in Squiid Game Season 3 - 9

Believe it or not, Min-su managed to survive the chaos of Squid Game Season 2 and is confirmed to return in Season 3. Honestly, he’s made it this far mostly because of his cowardice, and let’s be real, that might just keep him alive a little longer. There’s a solid chance he could end up throwing someone under the bus in Season 3 to save his skin. Then again, this game doesn’t spare anyone for too long, so Min-su could very well meet his end too. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see what Netflix has lined up for the finale of Squid Game.

11. Nam-gyu (Player 124)

Nam-gyu in Squid Game Season 3 - 10

Nam-gyu has been a major pain in the neck for players and one of the key antagonists in S quid Game Season 2. In the series, he allied with Thanos , and together, the duo was responsible for quite a few deaths in the previous season. But now that Thanos is out of the picture, dead right in front of Nam-gyu, he’s flying solo. Fans are already speculating that Thanos might not be completely gone from the show, though, and could appear in Nam-gyu’s hallucinations moving forward.

So, let’s see how that plays out when Squid Game Season 3 drops on Netflix on June 27, 2025.

  • This update came to us via a listing made on the Film and Television Industry Alliance, where David Fincher is also listed as the director.
  • As of now, we don’t have a tentative release date for Squid Game: America

Netflix has given us probably the most successful battle royale show of all time with Squid Game, and it might have been slightly disappointing for fans to watch it end with its final season. Even though the series has come to an end, the Game will live on with its spinoffs, and the first one in line is none other than the much-anticipated spinoff set in the USA, titled Squid Game: America is now confirmed to begin filming in 2026, and here is everything you need to know about this update.

It has come to light that Squid Game: America is set to begin filming in February 2026, in Los Angeles . This reveal came to us via a listing on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website , where a filming date is mentioned to be February 26, 2026.

The listing of the TV show includes several names, including David Fincher listed as the director, original Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk, and producer Kim Ji-yeon as producers, Dennis Kelly as screenwriter, and the only cast member mentioned on the webpage as of now is Cate Blanchett, whom we saw in the Squid Game finale post-credit scene . The new webpage also comes with a brief description that reads-

“A US version of the Korean hit series, the spinoff is set in the same world but we get to see how the games are handled in America.”

So, as of now, the only thing we know is that this series will pick up exactly where the final season of Squid Game ended, where we saw the recruiter, played by Cate Blanchett, playing ddakji with a man. It’s hard to say if we will see any returning characters with this one.

Squid Game was the first survival TV show to become hugely popular in 2021. It quickly surpassed even the most popular shows on Netflix and became the most-watched series on the platform. Now that the saga has ended on a tear-jerking note, I’m pretty sure there are fans who would want to know what other shows have the audacity to give the same feel. Well, here, I’ve listed five of the best TV Shows like Squid Game that can fill the void.

1. Alice in Borderland

Image Credit: Robot Communications Inc. (via YouTube/Netflix, Screenshot By Aparna Ukil/Beebom)

  • Release Date: December 10, 2020
  • Director: Shinsuke Sato
  • Cast: Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya, Nijirō Murakami, Ayaka Miyoshi, Aya Asahina, Dori Sakurada, Sho Aoyagi, Riisa Naka, Yuri Tsunematsu, Hayato Isomura

Alice in Borderland is one of the must-watch shows for everyone who liked Squid Game. Despite boasting a different narrative style and themes, this survival thriller drama series shares way more similarities with Squid Game than any other show in existence.

Like Squid Game, Alice in Borderland also forces its characters to participate in deadly games. However, the only difference here is that the one to survive in the Squid Game will go home with the huge cash prize that will give them financial freedom, while in Alice in Borderland, the characters get to extend their visas by winning the game. Squid Game makes players play some childhood games with deadly twists, and Alice in Borderland makes its characters go through some of the most complex games that test their intellect, physical strength, decision-making, and more.

Alice in Borderland Season 1 was released before the pilot season of Squid Game, but it didn’t receive the initial traction it deserved due to a lack of marketing. However, the success of Squid Game popularized the genre, and AIB got the attention it deserved. It has blessed us with two seasons so far, and the third season is set to be released on September 25, 2025.

2. The 8 Show

  • Release Date: May 17, 2024
  • Director: Han Jae-rim
  • Cast: Ryu Jun-yeol, Chun Woo-hee, Park Jeong-min, Lee Yul-eum, Park Hae-joon, Lee Joo-young, Moon Jeong-hee, Bae Seong-woo

In Squid Game, we see 456 players forced to play the life-or-death games; on the other side, The 8 Show features only eight players who must do everything to win the game of survival. With each round, they are rewarded with more time to live. Both TV shows shed light on wealth disparity and human desperation. They particularly illustrate what extreme pressure does to an ordinary person.

The thriller series was released in 2024 and mostly garnered positive reviews. It also remained on Netflix’s Top 10 chart for three consecutive weeks.

3. Death’s Game

  • Release Date: December 15, 2023
  • Director: Ha Byung-hoon
  • Cast: Seo In-guk, Park So-dam

Death’s Game and Squid Game are polar opposites, but again, it is a television series that comes from a South Korean production, and it also explores themes of societal pressure, survival, and morality. When the main protagonist Choi Yee-jae loses all hope and tries to commit suicide, Death itself stops him.

The invisible supernatural entity then punishes him by giving him 12 chances to live his life. If he fails to survive in even one of his lives, he will be sent to hell, and if he prevents his death, even if in his one lifetime, he can continue living his ordinary life.

4. All Of Us Are Dead

  • Release Date: January 28, 2022
  • Director: Lee Jae-kyoo and Kim Nam-soo
  • Cast: Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, Lomon

Regardless, All of Us Are Dead and Squid Game are both set in Korea, which allows international fans to become familiar with the country’s culture.

5. 3%

A still from 3% - 26

  • Release Date: November 25, 2016
  • Director: César Charlone, Daina Giannecchini, Dani Libardi, Jotagá Crema, Philippe Barcinski
  • Cast: João Miguel, Bianca Comparato, Michel Gomes, Rodolfo Valente, Cynthia Senek, Vaneza Oliveira, Rafael Lozano, Viviane Porto

The first season of 3% was released in 2016, and it was the first Portuguese-language original television series on Netflix. Like Squid Game, this series also explored the themes of classism, wealth disparity, and survival.

3% takes place in a dystopian world that is divided into two parts: ‘Inland’ and ‘Offshore’. The former side includes the poor class, while the latter consists of the elite. So, the 20-year-olds of the Inshore are pushed to go through some tests that will decide their fate. Only 3% who pass the tests get to join the rich, while the ones who fail stay behind to spend their lives in poverty and face dire situations.
