Not a lot of cast members for I Am Legend 2 have been announced, and as of now, the only confirmed cast members are Will Smith as Dr. Robert Neville and Michael B. Jordan in an undisclosed role. Initially, Will Smith was not up for creating this sequel. In an interview with BBC Radio 1 , Will Smith stated that he will probably not be a part of the movie. He stated-
“Producers are working on it. I’m not actually working on it,” he said at the time. “If it’s great, I’m into it. I don’t want to be ‘the sequel guy.’ I figure I’ve got about six or seven more years.”
Later in March 2022, it came to light in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight that Will Smith had changed his mind and would be a part of the sequel. Even though he did not reveal any plot details, in his conversation, he stated-
“It was one of those ones I was gonna leave alone, and then I heard the idea.I can’t talk about it yet, but it’s a really, really cool concept and (Michael B. Jordan) was a part of creating the idea.”

Yes, Akiva Goldsman, the screenwriter of the movie, has also confirmed that I Am Legend 2 will stick closer to the original novel by Richard Matheson. Akiva also said that they are going to stick with the alternate ending of I Am Legend and that it will be a more authentic novel adaptation as compared to the first movie.
“We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film. What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”
