Dandadan: What Is The Awesome Zone?

The anime adaptation of Dandadan premiered globally in October 2024, and we can say that it was definitely worth the wait. From the beginning, the anime series left no stone unturned to impress us with its animation quality, storyline, and quirky characters. There are several anime like Dandadan out there featuring supernatural entities, be it ghosts, aliens, or curses. However, Dandadan stands out in the crowd as it is a complete package of spookiness.

The story begins with an occult fanatic, Okarun , and a ghost believer, Momo Ayase challenging each other to visit places they can encounter aliens and ghosts, respectively. While the former encounters an elderly ghost called Turbo Granny, the latter comes across a group of Serpo aliens.

The anime made us believe that Okarun and Momo defeated the powerful Serpo aliens in their first encounter. However, in Dandadan Episode 8, the aliens return, and this time with a new technique to accomplish their motives. The method is called The Awesome Zone , and here, we discuss what it is exactly.

The Awesome Zone in Dandadan Explained

The Awesome Zone is a void space created by the Serpo aliens to capture anyone with great spiritual energies. Besides that, the space has an immense gravity force that pulls the target inside it and prevents them from using their powers. Now, it completely makes sense why Okarun can’t use the Turbo Granny powers when he was held captive in the Awesome Zone.

This technique becomes even more rugged when multiple Serpians combine their psychokinesis powers. No wonder Okarun and Aira have a hard time defeating the aliens, even in their demonic forms. Despite being a potential technique, the Serpians can’t defeat the enemies in the Awesome Zone all by themselves as they can’t enter the space. Hence, they hired a gig worker, Chiquitita, to land all the heavy blows on Okarun, Aira, and Momo.

Moreover, someone with psychokinetic powers can also counter this technique, and that was clearly shown in the ninth episode of the Dandadan anime. The tables get turned against the aliens with the arrival of Momo Ayase, who boasts such powers.

How Does Aira Enter the Awesome Zone?

As the Awesome Zone was only created to capture someone with spiritual powers , you might wonder how a normal human like Aira can enter space. The credit goes to the Acrobatic Silky, who transferred her aura to the pink-haired girl and passed on her spirit power to her. Aira attracted the Acrobatic Silky to her when she was a child by calling the ghost ‘Mommy.’

When Aira arrived at Momo and Okarun’s school, the spirit followed her, but when she eventually killed the girl, she realized that it was her own daughter whom she lost before dying. So, Acrobatic Silky recalled that she wanted to protect her little girl, and that’s why she decided to sacrifice herself by transferring her spirit powers to Aira.

What to Expect from Dandadan Season 2 Episode 9?
