- I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 was released on Netflix in October.
- It features a sharp story, clever twists, brutal kills, and a similar concept to Scream.
- If you are a Scream fan, you should definitely give this movie a shot.
Scream has been one of the most popular slasher film franchises, captivating fans since the 90’s. The IP got a fresh reboot with Jenna Ortega starrer Scream, released in 2022, followed by Scream 6 in 2023. Now, fans are counting down the days for the release of Scream 7. However, it won’t arrive until February 2026. So, fans who are curiously waiting for the film can watch this Netflix slasher film to scratch that itch in the meantime.
I Know What You Did Last Summer Is the Movie Every Scream Fan Should Watch
I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in theatres on July 18, 2025, and on Netflix in October 2025. I didn’t get to see the movie on the big screen, so I recently decided to watch it from the comfort of my home. I didn’t know at that time what I was signing up for. My hopes for the movie weren’t high at first, given the not-so-great IMDb ratings, of course.
However, as I like horror and slasher stuff, I really liked the clever storytelling, the brutal kills, and the mystery element. To be honest, these were some of the aspects that made the original Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer household names years ago.
The movie introduces us to a group of young adults who make a mistake one night. They don’t commit any crime or cause an accident that kills anyone. However, they choose to remain silent after witnessing something really terrible. So, their past deeds come after them, and they get chased by a hooded killer with a hook.
Every scene of the film asks you to guess who the killer is. When you think you have got it right, the film throws another mystery at you. The original film featured glossy cinematography and stylish teenagers, while the 2025 version offers everything that resonates with modern audiences. The plot gets darker and psychologically complex, with grounded performances.
Like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer also brings back some of the original characters from the 90s classic. The film gives you plenty of reasons to watch it while you wait for Ghostface. Also, like modern Scream movies connect with the original films, I Know What You Did Last Summer also connects with the original 1997 film. Not only is it set in the same universe, but it also brings some of the OG cast members. That’s all the more reason for you to watch the film.
