2024 is gone and this year has been pretty eventful when we talk about theatrical releases. There were multiple sequels, some of which were highly anticipated but the crown of the best theatrical releases was taken home by animated flicks. However, among so many movies, there have to be some that were particularly good and in this article, let’s find out about the top 15 movies we watched this year!

15. Venom 3

Venom 3 was one of the most anticipated movies of 2024. This movie was the last of Venom’s solo appearances and after this, the rumor is that Venom might appear in the upcoming Spider-Man 4 movie which might feature Knull who was teased in Venom 3. In this movie, we see that Knull has sent Xenophages to find Venom and Eddie and retrieve the codex from them so that he can free himself and attack the universe. However, Venom makes sure that this does not happen with a climax which was the best part of the movie according to me.

14. Trap

If you are someone who enjoys watching movies and shows that are slightly claustrophobic, there are chances that you might enjoy watching Trap. This movie brings in Josh Hartnett as Cooper. He seems to be your average Joe who has surprised his daughter with tickets to the concert of her favorite singer.

However, there is a massive twist in the story that becomes slightly obvious at some point. This movie might take you by surprise but at most is a one-time watch. The reason I am recommending this movie is solely based on the performance put forward by Josh Hartnett but you’ll have to witness it to know what I’m talking about since if I tell you more about Trap it might spoil the story for you.

13. We Live in Time

If you enjoy watching movies like ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ or such romantic yet tragic movies, We Live in Time is one you cannot miss out on. This movie also features Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh in the lead roles.

This movie brings in Andrew Garfield as Tobias, a divorcee who bumps into Almut, a former figure skater turned Bavarian-fusion chef. They soon hit it off and start a bitter-sweet love story told to us in a non-linear manner. However, something happens that tests the love shared by Almut and Tobias which might leave you in tears.

12. Fly Me To The Moon

There are a lot of conspiracy theories regarding the moon landing and “Fly Me To The Moon” brings in one such conspiracy theory. This movie has a pretty interesting cast where we get to see Channing Tatum as Cole Davis an employee at NASA associated directly with the moon mission. However, nobody had faith that NASA could do it and to build the faith of the people, NASA needed a marketing specialist.

This is when Kelly Jones, played by Scarlett Johansson comes in and makes it the most sought-after event in human history. However, the stakes are too high for the government so they have an insane backup plan to save the image of the United States just in case the landing goes sideways, and to know what it is, watch ‘Fly Me To The Moon” now!

11. Wolfs

If action comedies are your jam, Wolfs starring George Clooney and Bradd Pit will tickle you in all the right spots. This movie brings in both the stars as “fixers” who are called upon by rich people when they need a problem to be fixed. In this particular case, District Attorney Margaret had a one-night stand with a young man who out of nowhere jumped on a glass table and died.

Margret is called Jack, a Fixer played by George Clooney However, things take a turn when another Fixer player by Bradd Pitt shows up on site and they both end up working together in a fun and action-packed adventure. The best part about this movie is the chemistry between Bradd Pitt and Clooney which is something you cannot miss.

10. Gladiator 2

There have been multiple sequels this year but the one a lot of people were looking out for was this one. Gladiator, released in 2000 was a hyper-successful movie and is to date extremely popular among fans, and 2024 brought us Gladiator 2 , the sequel to that movie. However, even though this movie was not as insanely good as the first movie but is worth a watch.

The cinematic aspect of this movie is really good and the story of Lucius is pretty interesting to witness along with the performance put forward by Pedro Pascal. So, if you have not watched this one, I highly recommend you to watch Gladiator 2.

9. Moana 2

Moana 2 was also a highly speculated movie and to some extent, it even stood on what people were expecting from the movie. However, in my opinion, some things could have been better. Moana 2 brought us the story of Moana who is now out looking for other people with a new crew and is once again accompanied by his trusty demi-god friend, Maui. Visually, Moana 2 is as stunning as it gets but when it comes to the story, it feels as if this movie ignores the adult audience completely. Overall, it’s a pretty solid flick.

8. Wicked

In all honesty, I did not expect Wicked to be as good as it turned out to be. This movie revolves around two young girls, Elphaba and Glinda, one of whose skin is green and the other is blonde and beautiful respectively. Initially, they do not like each other but gradually, they become the best of friends developing a special bond. However, fate had different plans for both of them.

Glinda became the Good Witch and Elphaba became the Wicked Witch. This movie is essentially an origin story for the Wicked Witch and you should check it out, if not for the story then for the amazing visuals.

7. Transformers One

There were multiple animated releases this year but the one that I could watch more than once would easily be Transformers One . This movie was the best Transformers movie to date in my opinion and I have good reason to say so.

This movie is not only the most lore-accurate depiction of the characters but also the way they are portrayed is spectacular be it the voice acting, or the breathtaking animations, Transformers One stood tall on everything it promised. So, if you are a fan of the Transformers franchise, this movie is a must-watch for you and if you have not watched it yet, go ahead and do it ASAP!

6. Deadpool and Wolverine

The highlight of 2024, is the most anticipated movie Marvel has ever made, Deadpool 3 or Deadpool and Wolverine was one of the most successful movies of 2024. This movie was the second-highest-grossing movie of this year with a total revenue of $1.3 Billion only to be bested by Inside Out 2. This movie brings back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine after his appearance in Logan in 2019 which was supposed to be his last film as Wolverine.

Deadpool and Wolverine was sure a fun film but overall, it lacked a few things here and there but considering how much love fans bestowed on the project, we can ignore them. This movie was filled with insane cameos and great acting, and overall, it was a love letter to all those who grew up watching X-Men movies.

5. The Wild Robot

The Wild Robot might be the most visually stunning animated movie released in 2024. This movie not only brought in a refreshing story but the emotional and visual depth it offers is mindblowing. This movie revolves around a ROZZUM Unit 7134, nicknamed “Roz” who got lost after a shipwreck and got accidentally activated by curious animals on the island. Initially, all the animals were scared of Roz but as it became more familiar with the wildlife it became a part of the island and his journey of achieving this deserves to be admired by everyone.

4. The Fall Guy

If you like to watch movies that bring you the best of almost every genre, The Fall Guy is a movie that will give you just the right portions of comedy, action, romance, and thrill all served in a beautifully curated project. This movie revolves around a stuntman who after a grave injury stopped doing the job he loves. However, leaving the job also meant leaving behind the love of his life but fate had a different plan for him.

He gets called back into action by the same girl who is directing an action movie. As he takes the job to reunite with her, some things happen that force him to bring his stuntman skills into the real world bringing us an epic adventure.

3. Sonic The Hedgehog 3

Sonic 3 released in competition with Mufasa: The Lion King and racing at a thousand miles an hour, has left its competitor way behind. Sonic 3 not only managed to crush it with revenue but also won the hearts of all its fans with the introduction of Shadow the Hedgehog . Not only that but he is also voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves. Moreover, Sonic 3 also ended with revealing a new character set to appear in Sonic 4.

2. Inside Out 2

If you have watched the first Inside Out movie, you are very well familiar with the completely out-of-the-box story this franchise put forward. However, this time around, Riley has become a teenager and is developing numerous new emotions that are not exactly friendly with the pre-existing emotions that got her by in the first movie.

Inside Out 2 works on multiple levels, first off, it’s visually beautiful, second, the story is absolute perfection and the voice acting is as good as it gets. All of this is evident with Inside Out 2 being the top-grossing movie of 2024.

1. Dune 2

If we are talking about peak cinema, Dune 2 was hands down the best movie to be released this year. There was not a single aspect of this movie that could be labeled as disappointing. The musical score, the acting put forward by the spectacular cast, the storytelling, and the visuals, There was not a single point in Dune 2 that would make you say anything bad about this movie.

Netflix’s Frankenstein is one of the best screen adaptations of the 1818 classic novel. Do you think you know the movie’s story? Well, you might be proved wrong. Frankenstein was Guillermo del Toro’s dream project, so he crafted a brilliant story based on the original. Well, the best part of his vision was that he didn’t make the creature seem like a mere horror; instead, he allowed us to see the creature’s human side.

Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein, a scientist, who is fascinated with death. So, he creates a creature using the body parts of the corpses. However, after the creature comes to life, Victor becomes frustrated with its appearance and the way it speaks and moves. He abandons him, but the creature, unable to accept rejection, follows Victor to seek answers.

On top of everything, Daniel Craig’s Blanc has evolved more than ever and appears as a fully realised detective in Wake Up Dead Man.

The story of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery kicks off with the murder of a religious leader in a small upstate New York church. A troubled priest of the church becomes the prime suspect, but when Blanc enters the picture, he instantly realises there is more beneath the surface that has not yet come to light.
